    Dr. Hynan is a Professor in the Peter O'Donnell Jr. School of Public Health and Department of Psychiatry. She received her MS in Applied Measurement/Statistics and PhD in Quantitative Psychology from the University of Illinois - Urbana. She joined UT Southwestern in 1999 and participates in various research projects and clinical trials such as Alzheimer's Disease, Exercise and Aging, Acute Liver Failure, Instrument Development (Quality of Life in SMA, Cognitive Measures, Pruritus, etc.), Vaginal Prolapse, Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) and Dermatology. She has co-authored more than 330 peer-reviewed publications and chapters in addition to abstracts and presentations at regional, national, and international meetings.

    Dr. Hynan has served on 39 PhD dissertation committees (excluding seven in progress), 20 PsyD project committees, and nine master’s theses in the areas of Clinical Psychology, Statistics, Mathematics, and Gerontology. She is the course director and one of the instructors for Conceptual Biostatistics for the Clinical Investigator I as well as one of the instructors for Biostatistics for Clinical Sciences II and Critical Readings in Biostatistics (a senior elective for MS-4 students). She has served on the Administrative Council of the University Senate (President in 2015-16) and as the University Representative on the UT System Faculty Advisory Committee (2015-17).

    In 2019, she received the Fellow Award from the Southwestern Psychological Association. Dr. Hynan is a past president of the Southwestern Psychological Association and has had leadership roles in the North Texas Chapter of the American Statistical Association and the American Statistical Association. She has been a member/invited reviewer for NIH Study Sections; she is currently the biostatistician or biostatistical mentor for thirteen grants and has served on more than seventy grants from national, state, and foundations during her 24 years at UTSW. She has served on editorial boards and as an ad hoc reviewer of manuscripts submitted to Academic Journals.
