Biography

Lafaine Grant, M.D., is an Associate Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine at UT Southwestern Medical Center and a member of the Division of Digestive and Liver Diseases.

Liver disease affects the entire body, so it can be challenging to manage, but that gives me an opportunity to develop long-term relationships with patients.

 Dr. Grant holds a bachelor's degree in biology from Emory University in Atlanta. She earned a post-baccalaureate in biological sciences at Southern Illinois University. She then earned her medical degree at Wake Forest University School of Medicine in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. She completed internal medicine residency training at Emory University Hospital. She then completed advanced training through fellowships in gastroenterology at the Washington University School of Medicine and hepatology at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas. 

Certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in gastroenterology and transplant hepatology, Dr. Grant joined the UT Southwestern faculty in 2007 as an Assistant Professor. She was promoted to Associate Professor in 2016. She was Medical Director of the Digestive and Liver Diseases Clinic at UT Southwestern from 2012 to 2017.

At UT Southwestern, Dr. Grant is a member of the Racial Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (REDI) Committee. She is also a member of the Liver Transplant Fellowship Program Evaluation Committee.

Dr. Grant is a fellow of the American Association For The Study of Liver Diseases and is a member of the American Gastroenterological Association, the Texas Transplantation Society,  the American College of Gastroenterology, the American Society of Transplantation, and the Texas Society for Gastroenterology and Endoscopy.

Dr. Grant's research interests include Hepatitis C, liver failure, and drug-induced liver injury. Her findings have resulted in numerous clinical trial activities, grant support, regional and local lectures, and peer-reviewed publications.
