Biography

Alvin Chandra, M.D., is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine at UT Southwestern Medical Center and a member of the Division of Cardiology

Dr. Chandra earned his medical degree, completed internal medicine residency training, and completed a general cardiology fellowship at UT Southwestern Medical Center. He then received additional fellowship training in cardio-oncology at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and a research fellowship in cardiovascular imaging at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, both in Boston.

Certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine, he returned to UT Southwestern, joining the faculty in 2019. 

Dr. Chandra is a member of several professional organizations, including the American Heart Association, the European Society of Cardiology, the American Society of Nuclear Cardiology, and the American College of Cardiology. He has served as a reviewer for several journals, including Circulation, European Heart Journal, and Circulation: Cardiovascular Quality and Outcomes. He also serves on the cardiac events classification committee for the Hispanic Community Health Study/Study of Latinos (HCHS/SOL).

Dr. Chandra has delivered presentations internationally and published several academic articles. His research focuses on improving quality of life in patients with heart disease, as well as on primary and secondary prevention of cardiovascular disease, with a special focus on the cancer population.
