  • Biography

    Richard C. Wu, M.D., is a Professor in the Division of Cardiology at UT Southwestern Medical Center. He also serves as the Dallas Heart Ball Chair in Cardiac Arrhythmia Research and the L. David Hillis, M.D. Professor in Clinical Research in Cardiology.

    Dr. Wu specializes in evaluating and treating cardiac arrhythmias (heart rhythm disorders) and has special expertise in performing cardiac ablation procedures.

    He earned his medical degree at the Duke University School of Medicine and completed an internal medicine residency, a postdoctoral cardiology fellowship, and a cardiac electrophysiology fellowship at John Hopkins Medicine. He also holds a bachelor’s degree (cum laude) in chemistry from Duke University and studied cellular biology for a year at the University of California, San Francisco.

    Certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in cardiovascular disease and clinical cardiac electrophysiology, Dr. Wu joined the UT Southwestern faculty in 2006. He has been named a Best Doctor in America every year since 2009 and has been a D Magazine Best Doctor multiple times.

    Dr. Wu’s research interests include atrial fibrillation ablation, catheter ablation guided by 3-D cardiac imaging, idiopathic ventricular tachycardia, and novel catheter ablation technologies. His research has been supported by the Southwestern Medical Foundation, Charles Y.C. Pak Foundation, and Sarnoff Cardiovascular Research Foundation.

    He has published a number of scholarly articles and book chapters and has served as a reviewer for publications that include the American Journal of Cardiology and HeartRhythm.

    He is a member of several professional organizations, including the American College of Cardiology, the American Heart Association, and the Heart Rhythm Society.

    Personal Note

    Dr. Wu has three children and is the son of a physician himself.
