Robert Stewart, M.D.

Dr. Stewart is member of the Division of Maternal-Fetal Medicine in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at UT Southwestern, and a specialist in the complications associated with pregnancy. 

A graduate of Baylor University, Dr. Stewart earned his medical degree at Texas Tech University School of Medicine.  After completing his residency in obstetrics and gynecology at the Parkland Health and Hospital System and UT Southwestern, he finished at three-year fellowship in maternal-fetal medicine in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at UT Southwestern. 

Board certified in obstetrics and gynecology as well as maternal-fetal medicine, Dr. Stewart's research focuses on HIV and pregnancy.  He is also the primary investigator representing UT Southwestern with the North American Fetal Therapy Network.  This group is an association of medical centers with expertise in fetal surgery and multidisciplinary care for complex fetal disorders.  Dr. Stewart has published articles on such topics as opioid use during pregnancy and the impact of maternal opioid detoxification on mother and child.  He is also participating in a multiyear prospective clinical trial on cardiac physiology in pregnancy which uses cardiac MRIs to define normal cardiac changes during pregnancy. 

I'm very committed to spending time counseling patients on their condition and talking to them about their babies.

Dr. Stewart's clinical practice is located in Plano at the UT Southwestern Maternal-Fetal Medicine Clinic at Children's Medical Center at Legacy.  There, he partners with community OB/GYN doctors to help women manage their own health during pregnancy and deliver healthy babies. Because having a high-risk pregnancy can be stressful to expectant mothers, Dr. Stewart is committed to making patients feel comfortable.

The Legacy location offers Children’s Medical Center specialists in cardiology and neurology, among many others. In addition, Children’s Medical Center in Dallas offers a Fetal-Neonatal program specializing in fetal complications diagnosed at birth or before birth, and the new William P. Clements Jr. University Hospital in Dallas provides access to more than 30 neonatal ICU rooms, giving each baby his or her own room where parents can spend the night.
