Megan Wachsmann, M.D.

Megan B. Wachsmann, M.D., M.S.C.S. is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Pathology at University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center and a staff Pathologist at the VA North Texas Health Care System. She specializes in both Gastrointestinal and Liver Surgical Pathology and Molecular Genetic Pathology.

Dr. Wachsmann earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry from the University of Texas at Austin in 2004. She then moved to Dallas, where she acquired both a Medical Degree and a Master of Science in Clinical Sciences, focused on pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma tumor immunology, at UT Southwestern Medical School.  She completed an internship in Internal Medicine at the University of Massachusetts before returning to the University of Texas Southwestern to pursue residency training in Anatomical and Clinical Pathology. After her residency training, she received subspecialty training in both Gastrointestinal and Liver Pathology and Molecular Genetic Pathology through fellowships at UT Southwestern Medical Center. 

Certified in Clinical and Anatomical Pathology as well as Molecular Genetics Pathology by the American Board of Pathology, Dr. Wachsmann joined the University of Texas Southwestern faculty in 2019 and clinically practices at the VA North Texas Health Care System. She has specialty training in Next Generation Sequencing and molecular oncology testing.

Dr. Wachsmann is a devoted clinician scientist and is engaged in clinical research focusing on the genetics, epigenetics and immunologic aspects of pancreatic adenocarcinoma.  She is a part of the UT Southwestern PanLab, a group of clinicians and scientists interested in advancing the field of pancreatic cancer research and actively collaborates with the Ligorio Lab and Aguilera Lab. 

Dr. Wachsmann is committed to providing excellent clinical education to trainees at all levels and is involved in both the Anatomic Pathology resident education program, as well as the Gastroenterology curriculum for Pathology fellows. She received the UT Southwestern Medical Student pathology teaching award in 2016 and 2017. 

She is a member of multiple professional organizations and committees, including the Association of Molecular Pathology, the Rodger C. Haggitt Gastrointestinal Pathology Society, the Pancreatobiliary Pathology Society and the Texas Society of Pathologists. She is actively involved in a number of regional and national committees through these organizations.

Dr. Wachsmann is also a passionate advocate for diversity and inclusion on campus and has been an integral member of the University of Texas Southwestern Women in Science and Medicine Advisory Council (WISMAC) since 2011.
