She attended Baylor University for undergraduate studies from 2003-2006. She then attended UT Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas where she decided to pursue a career in internal medicine. While in residency, she became interested in hepatology research. She has done multiple research projects in gastroenterology and hepatology with Dr. Don Rockey and Dr. William Lee.
