Biography Thanh Tran, M.D., M.B.A., is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine at UT Southwestern Medical Center and a member of its Division of Hospital Medicine. Originally from Vietnam, Dr. Tran holds a bachelor's degree from Baylor University. She earned her medical degree at UT Southwestern, where she also completed her internal medicine residency training. She also holds a master's degree in healthcare organization leadership from the University of Texas at Dallas. Dr. Tran initially joined the UT Southwestern faculty in 2013. After briefly entering into private practice, she returned to the faculty in 2025. Dr. Tran’s research interests center on liver disease, especially hepatotoxicity, hepatic vascular abnormalities, and clinical approaches to liver injury. She also has a strong interest in clinical problem‑solving and rare presentations of disease, demonstrated by case reports and clinical vignette presentations involving immunodeficiency, gastric crisis, and other complex diagnostic scenarios. In addition, her recent conference work highlights a growing focus on hospital medicine systems, including provider well‑being, emergency department throughput, and operational responses to patient‑surge events. She is a member of the American College of Physicians and the Society of Hospital Medicine.
