Biography Joy Lo Chen, MD, FASA, FCCM, is an Associate Professor in the Department of Anesthesiology and Pain Management at UT Southwestern Medical Center. She completed her medical school, residency, and fellowship training at UT Southwestern, where she developed a strong foundation in anesthesia and critical care. Dr. Chen has a special interest in trauma anesthesia, anesthesia for patients with obesity and bariatric surgery, quality improvement, and mentorship. She is actively engaged in organized medicine and healthcare advocacy, working to advance policies that improve patient care and support the medical profession. In recognition of her dedication to education and clinical excellence, Dr. Chen was honored with the Junior Faculty of the Year Award by the Department of Anesthesiology in 2020. She is also a proud member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. Dr. Chen serves as the co-medical director of both the Dallas Veterans Affairs Surgical ICU and the Dallas Veterans Affairs Thoracic ICU, where she plays a critical role in the care of complex surgical and critically ill patients. Her commitment to advancing anesthetic practice and mentoring the next generation of physicians continues to shape the field of anesthesiology at UT Southwestern and beyond.
