  • Biography

    Jeffrey Zigman, M.D., Ph.D., is a Professor with tenure in the Department of Internal Medicine at UT Southwestern Medical Center and a member of the Division of Endocrinology. He has a secondary appointment in the Department of Psychiatry. He holds the Kent and Jodi Foster Distinguished Chair in Endocrinology, the Diane and Richard C. Strauss Professorship in Biomedical Research, and the Mr. and Mrs. Bruce G Brookshire Professorship in Medicine.

    Originally from Bradford, Pennsylvania, Dr. Zigman holds a bachelor's degree in biological sciences from Cornell University in Ithaca, New York. He earned his doctorate in biochemistry and molecular biology at the University of Chicago. He earned his medical degree at the University of Chicago School of Medicine. He completed internal medicine residency training at the University of Chicago. He then received advanced training through a clinical and research fellowship in endocrinology, diabetes, and metabolism under Dr. Joel Elmquist and Dr. Jeffrey Garber at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston.

    A Diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine, Dr. Zigman joined the UT Southwestern faculty in 2006.

    At UT Southwestern, Dr. Zigman is Chair of the Molecular Metabolism & Metabolic Diseases Graduate Track. He is also the Director of the Enrichment Program at the UT Southwestern Nutrition and Obesity Research Center.
