  • Biography

    Alan Farrow-Gillespie, M.D. is a professor in the Department of Anesthesiology & Pain Management at UT Southwestern Medical School in Dallas, Texas, and he is the Assistant Director of the Division of Pediatric Anesthesiology & Pain Management for Children’s Medical Center Dallas and Children’s Health System Texas.  He also serves as the Chief Clinical Officer for the Paviion Surgery Center of Children's Health System Texas.

    Dr. Farrow-Gillespie earned his M.D. from the University of Texas Medical School at Houston.  After serving in the US Air Force as a flight surgeon, he completed his anesthesia residency at Loma Linda University Medical Center in Loma Linda, California.  Dr. Farrow-Gillespie completed a clinical anesthesia fellowship as a senior registrar at the Norfolk & Norwich Hospital in Norfolk, England; and a pediatric anesthesia fellowship at The Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto, Canada.  Dr. Farrow-Gillespie completed pain medicine fellowships at the University of Sydney/ Royal North Shore Hospital in Sydney, Australia and Stanford University Medical Center in Stanford, California.

    Dr. Farrow-Gillespie has been involved in pediatric end-of-life care since 2005, and earned his Hospice & Palliative Medicine subspecialty certification in 2010.  Dr. Farrow-Gillespie has held academic positions as an assistant professor of anesthesiology & pain management at the Texas A&M School of Medicine and as a clinical instructor of pediatric anesthesia and pain management at Lucille Packard Children’s Hospital at Stanford University Medical Center.  Dr. Farrow-Gillespie has published scientific articles in national and international medical journals, has authored book chapters, and is currently involved in ongoing studies in pain medicine, pediatric pain management, pediatric anesthesia, and intrathecal administration of novel medications for congenital neurologic disorders.  Dr. Farrow-Gillespie is a diplomate of the American Board of Anesthesiology with subspecialty certification in Pediatric Anesthesiology, Pain Medicine, and Hospice & Palliative Medicine.  Dr. Farrow-Gillespie has been active in medical staff affairs at Children’s Medical Center Dallas serving as a member and chairman of numerous committees, and serving as past president of the medical staff in 2020.
