Biography Dr. Lia Thomas is a Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at UT Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, TX. She joined the UTSW faculty in 2007, and has served as an Associate Residency Program Director since 2015. From 2007-2026, Dr. Thomas worked at the VANTHCS in a variety of clinical, administrative and educational roles. In late 2026, Dr. Thomas transitioned her clinical practice to the Multi-Specialty Outpatient Clinic at here at UTSW. Dr. Thomas is passionate about education and the development of psychiatry learning of medical trainees at all levels and is involved in committees at both the Association of Directors of Medical Student Education in Psychiatry and the American Association of Directors of Psychiatric Residency Training. Her academic interests include equitable residency recruitment practices, professional identity formation and resident workforce issues. Dr. Thomas has contributed numerous articles and book chapters and is an Associate Editor for the journal Academic Psychiatry .
