She did her undergraduate work in sociology and psychology at Missouri State University. Before attending graduate school at University of Houston Clear Lake she worked for five years with pre-schoolers as Head Start Director and as an assistant in private day care schools. During her graduate education and post degree Ms Cornwell worked for six years with Dr. Linda Bell on longitudinal research project looking at couple and family interactional processes funded by NIMH. Ms Cornwell has over 30 years of experience as a couple and family therapist, educator, trainer and supervisor. Ms Cornwell is the Senior Supervisor of the Family Studies Center where she is training and supervising couple and family therapy interns, medical students and psychiatry residents.
