Biography

Michael Luna, M.D., is an Associate Professor iin the Department of Internal Medicine at UT Southwestern Medical Center and a member of its Division of Cardiology. He specializes in adult congenital heart defects, heart valve disorders, and complex coronary artery disorders.

Dr. Luna earned his medical degree at UT Southwestern Medical School, where he also completed a residency in internal medicine. He then received advanced training at UT Southwestern through fellowships in cardiovascular disease and interventional cardiology, with additional focused training in congenital heart disease. He completed further postgraduate training with a fellowship in pediatric interventional cardiology at Children’s Medical Center Dallas.

Dr. Luna is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in internal medicine, cardiovascular disease, interventional cardiology, and adult congenital heart disease. He joined the UT Southwestern faculty in 2012.

Dr. Luna is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology (FACC) and the Society of Cardiac Angiography and Interventions (SCAI). He is a member of the Acute Cardiac Care Committee for the American Heart Association’s Council on Clinical Cardiology and currently serves on the SCAI Quality Improvement Committee. At Parkland Health & Hospital System, he also serves as Director of the STEMI Quality Improvement Group and is Co-Chair of the CV Value Analysis team.

Dr. Luna has delivered a variety of presentations across the country and published scores of original research articles.

In 2015, he earned the L. David Hillis Teaching Award for excellence in education, an honor awarded to a single faculty member within the Division of Cardiology. In 2012, he was honored with the JoAnn McWhorter Award for Excellence in Clinical Cardiology.
