Biography

Kia Byrd, M.D., is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine at UT Southwestern Medical Center, and a member of the Division of Hospital Medicine. Her clinical interests include chronic disease management and disparities in the treatment of end-stage liver disease

Originally from Jackson, Mississippi, Dr. Byrd holds a masters in public health from the Harvard School of Public Health in Boston. She received her medical degree from Harvard Medical School in Boston and completed internal medicine residency training at UT Southwestern Medical Center.

Dr. Byrd joined the UT Southwestern faculty in 2022. She is currently a hospitalist at University Hospitals. 

At UT Southwestern, Dr. Byrd served on the Editing Committee for the Internal Medicine Journal Watch. She was also the Chair of the Community Outreach Committee for the UT Southwestern Minority Housestaff Association.

Dr. Byrd is currently a member of the American College of Physicians and the National Medical Association CV Roman Chapter.

Dr. Byrd's research investigations have resulted in three publications in peer-reviewed journals and two books. 

Personal Note

Outside of medicine, Dr. Byrd enjoys traveling, blogging, and playing chess.
