Biography Download Curriculum Vitae Suzanne Cole, M.D., FACP, FASCO is an Associate Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine at UT Southwestern Medical Center and a member of the Division of Hematology and Oncology. She serves as the Medical Director and Research Leader of Community Oncology at Harold C. Simmons Comprehensive Cancer Center. Dr. Cole's leadership focuses on expanding access to clinical trials for cancer patients in rural and underserved areas, specifically in Community Oncology, Rural, and Underrepresented Minoruty (CORUM) populations, aiming to ensure diverse patient participation in research. Originally from North Dakota, Dr. Cole earned both a B.S. in Biology and a B.A. in Modern Dance, summa cum laude, from the University of Texas at Dallas. She also pursued a Master of Arts in Humanities at California State University Northridge, graduating with distinction. Dr. Cole earned her medical degree from UT Southwestern, where she completed her residency in Internal Medicine. She then underwent advanced fellowship training in Hematology and Medical Oncology at UT MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston. Certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in hematology and oncology, Dr. Cole joined the UT Southwestern faculty in 2018. Before joining UT Southwestern in 2018, Dr. Cole spent eight years providing care in community and rural settings in West Virginia and Oklahoma, which deepened her commitment to improving access to care for underserved populations. Her clinical focus lies in genitourinary (GU) malignancies, and she plays a key role in bringing clinical trial opportunities to UT Southwestern's community clinics in Ricahrdson-Plano, Redbird, and Fort Worth. Dr. Cole is board certified in Hematology and Medical Oncology and is a Fellow of both the American College of Physicians (FACP) and the American Society of Clinical Oncology (FASCO). She has been recognized for her extraordinary volunteer service and commitment to ASCO, where she held numerous roles, including serving on the Cancer Communications Committee, Diversity and Inclusivity Task Force, Women's Networking Center, and Practice Guidelines Implementation Network. She is also a graduate of ASCO's Leadership Development Program. In addition to her professional achievements, Dr. Cole is an advocate for integrating humanity into medicine, writing narrative medicine stories that highlight the experiences of her patients and their families. She has presented nationally and published widely in peer reviewed journals on cancer and blood disorders. She is also the founder of the Hematology & Oncology Women Physician Group and has served on the board of the Oklahoma Society of Clinical Oncology. Dr. Cole was named by D Magazine as one of Dallas’s Best Doctors in Medical Oncology in 2020-2024 and is one of America's Best Prostate Cancer Oncologists by Newsweek in 2024.
