Travis Browning, M.D., is a Professor of Radiology at UT Southwestern and a member of the Abdominal Imaging Division. He also holds leadership positions and serves as the Vice Chair of Strategic Analytics for the department and one of the Medical Directors of Medical Informatics at Parkland Health. His clinical interests include computed tomography (CT) imaging and radiographic imaging of the abdomen and pelvis, fluoroscopy, and non-obstetrical ultrasound.

At UT Southwestern, we're always looking for ways to do it better, faster, or easier.

Dr. Browning holds a bachelor’s degree in biochemistry from Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, and earned his medical degree from UT Southwestern Medical School. Also at UT Southwestern, he completed his residency training in diagnostic radiology, as well as advanced training through a fellowship program in abdominal imaging. He is certified in clinical informatics by the American Board of Preventive Medicine.

In addition to his clinical responsibilities, Dr. Browning is involved in the field of clinical informatics. He works closely with Parkland’s IT team to develop and implement new technologies throughout the hospital, as well as to maintain and evaluate projects and manage hardware lifecycles. He has worked on several small- and large-scale hospital implementations, such as voice recognition systems, 3-D imaging applications, an electronic peer review application, and electronic teaching file systems. He has also led and assisted numerous projects updating and optimizing Parkland’s electronic medical record and radiology information systems.

    A career marked by service

Dr. Browning serves on numerous committees at UT Southwestern. He is a member of the Residency Program Evaluation Committee, Radiology Residency Quality Education Committee, and Radiology Informatics Workgroup. He also serves on the governing body that oversees development and implementation of the department’s digital assets, including its intranet site, and leads the Abdominal Structured Reporting Workgroup. Additionally, he chairs the Radiology Campus Collaborative Committee.

Dr. Browning is an active member of multiple national and international professional organizations, including the American Medical Association, American College of Radiology, American Roentgen Ray Society, Radiological Society of North America, Society of Abdominal Radiology, Society for Imaging Informatics in Medicine, and the Texas Medical Association.

He has authored or co-authored numerous peer-reviewed publications and has contributed to a textbook on structured musculoskeletal imaging reports. Dr. Browning also serves as a reviewer for the International Journal of computer Assisted Radiology and Surgery, and Abdominal Imaging.
