Biography Download Curriculum Vitae Dr. Jeff Schaffert is a neuropsychologist and Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at UT Southwestern Medical Center. He is a dementia specialist and evaluates patients in the outpatient neuropsychology clinic, and serves as the primary neuropsychologist within the interdisciplinary Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus (NPH) Clinic, providing comprehensive neuropsychological evaluation to inform differential diagnosis, guide neurosurgical decision-making, and support collaborative treatment planning across neurology, neurosurgery, and psychiatry. Dr. Schaffert’s research program centers on advancing the understanding of cognitive decline and recovery mechanisms through two primary lines of investigation: (1) idiopathic normal pressure hydrocephalus (iNPH), focusing on cognitive, neurobiological, and pathophysiological processes that shape impairment and postoperative recovery; and (2) long-term cognitive impairment and dementia following traumatic brain injury (TBI), with emphasis on identifying factors associated with persistent deficits, accelerated cognitive aging, and later-life neurodegenerative outcomes.
