Juan Deleija-Lujano, M.D.

Juan Deleija-Lujiano,M.D., is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine at UT Southwestern Medical Center and a member of its Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine. His clinical interests include advanced lung disease and lung transplant medicine.

A South Texas native, Dr. Deleija received his bachelor's degree in chemistry from the University of Texas Pan-American in Edinburg. He then received his medical degree from the University of Texas health Science Center at Houston and completed internal medicine residency training followed by a fellowship in pulmonary and critical care at Baylor College of Medicine where he obtained additional training in lung transplant medicine. He became attracted to lung transplant medicine because of the meaningful impact that can be made in patients and considers it a privilege to be able to see patients get to a point where they can live healthy lives again.

Certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in internal medicine and pulmonary medicine, he joined the UT Southwestern faculty in 2024.

Dr. Deleija's research interests include the role of advanced mechanical support severe respiratory failure bridge to transplant, phenotyping progressive lung disease leading to end-stage lung disease, and role of socioeconomic factors impacting long-term transplant outcomes.

Dr. Deleija is an active member of the American College of Chest Physicians where he participates in various subcommittees.

Dr. Deleija's interests outside of medicine include fishing, hiking, biking, and taking long road trips to the great outdoors.
