Nan Dou, M.S., Ph.D. Titles and Appointments Assistant Professor Schools School of Public Health Departments Public Health Biography Dr. Nan Dou joined the Department of Epidemiology in the Peter O’Donnell Jr. School of Public Health at UT Southwestern as an Assistant Professor in July 2026. She is also a faculty member in the Child & Adolescent Population Health Program (CAPHP), in partnership with Children’s Health. Prior to joining UT Southwestern, she completed postdoctoral training at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. Dr. Dou completed her BS in Nutritional Sciences at Penn State, MS in Nutrition at UMass Amherst, and PhD in Nutritional Sciences at Penn State. Dr. Dou is a nutritional epidemiologist and population health scientist whose research focuses on promoting healthy growth and development among school-age children. Using quantitative and qualitative methods, her work centers on two areas: (1) understanding how social and behavioral determinants, such as food insecurity, family routines, and health behaviors, contribute to pediatric health outcomes such as childhood obesity and related cardiovascular conditions; and (2) evaluating and implementing programs and policies that improve nutrition and health outcomes for school-age children across family, school, and community settings.
