Biography Homar Bartra, M.D., is a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine at UT Southwestern Medical Center and a member of its Division of Hospital Medicine. Originally from Peru, Dr. Bartra received his initial training at Universidad Nacional de San Agustín in Arequipa, Peru. He completed his residency training in internal medicine at the University of Illinois Chicago/Michael Reese Hospital. Dr. Bartra owned a solo private practice in internal medicine in San Marcos, Texas, between 1995 and 2004. Then he became co-owner of a private hospitalist group that served three different hospitals: San Marcos, New Braunfels, and Seguin, Texas. Since then, Dr. Bartra has been recruited to open and direct hospitalist programs for several organizations, including Banner Health in Phoenix; Seton in Austin; Baptist Health System in San Antonio, and Houston Methodist in Sugar Land. Dr. Bartra has been involved in the education of medical students since 1998 through the University of Texas Medical Branch, the Area Health Education Center, the American College of Physicians, and Houston Methodist. Personal Note Dr. Bartra’s interests outside of medicine include basketball, disc golf, grilling, and outdoor family activities.
