Dr. Chittajallu holds a bachelor's degree in biology from the University of Miami, which he earned cum laude. He remained there to earn his medical degree and then completed internal medicine residency training at the Cleveland Clinic. He received fellowship training in gastroenterology and hepatology at Case Western Reserve University and advanced endoscopy at West Virginia University in Morgantown, West Virginia. Certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine and by the American Board of Obesity Medicine, Dr. Chittajallu joined the UT Southwestern faculty in 2025. Dr. Vibhu Chittajallu’s research centers on clinical outcomes and interventional approaches in gastroenterology, with particular emphasis on obesity-related disease, pancreatic and hepatobiliary disorders, and inflammatory bowel disease. His work frequently draws on large, multi-institutional databases to examine the impact of bariatric surgery and anti-obesity therapies on cancer risk, cardiovascular outcomes, and health care utilization, while also addressing gaps in treatment delivery such as medication underuse and preventive care uptake. Complementing this population-level research, he has contributed case reports and institutional studies that explore complex endoscopic management of gastrointestinal conditions, including pancreatic complications, duodenal stenosis, and variceal disease. His oral presentations further reflect a focus on pancreatic disease, endoscopic innovation, and the intersection of metabolic disorders with gastrointestinal pathology, alongside an emerging interest in health services research and quality improvement in digestive disease care. Dr. Chittajallu is an active member of several professional organizations, including the American College of Gastroenterology, the American Gastroenterological Association, the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, the American Pancreatic Association, and the Foundation for Interventional & Therapeutic Endoscopy.
