  • Biography

    David Aguilar, M.D., M.S.C.I, is a Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine at UT Southwestern Medical Center and a member of the Division of Cardiology. He serves as Section Chief of General and Noninvasive Cardiology.

    Dr. Aguilar holds a bachelor's degree in zoology from Texas A&M University in College Station, where he graduated summa cum laude. He earned his medical degree with honors at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston. He completed internal medicine residency training at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, where he also gained advanced training through a cardiovascular medicine fellowship. He also earned a master’s degree in clinical investigation at Baylor.

    Certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in cardiovascular diseases, he joined the UT Southwestern faculty in 2024.

    Prior to joining the UT Southwestern faculty in 2024, Dr. Aguilar served as a Professor of Medicine at the LSU Health Science Center in New Orleans.

    He is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology and the American Heart Association. Dr. Aguilar also serves on the editorial boards of American Heart JournalCardiovascular Drugs and TherapyCirculation, and Diabetes Care.

    Dr. Aguilar has delivered numerous national and international presentations and published more than 100 academic articles, reviews, and book chapters related to his areas of expertise.

    Personal Note

    When he’s not at work, Dr. Aguilar enjoys traveling, hiking, and spending time with his family.
