  • Biography

    Dr. Ortiz completed her medical training in Mexico and her postgraduate studies at McGill University and Dalhousie University.   She is an Associate Professor at the Department of Psychiatry at UT Southwestern, where she leads the Computational Psychiatry Program.

    As an expert in bipolar disorder, her research focuses on understanding mood regulation and forecasting episodes of illness using mathematical models and wearable technology. 

    For her work, Dr. Ortiz has been presented with more than 15 awards in her career, including the Samuel Gershon Award by the International Society of Bipolar Disorders, and the Clinical Innovator of the Year by Digital Health Canada.

    As a Principal Investigator, she has secured national and international funding from the National Institutes of Mental Health (NIMH), the Canadian Institutes for Health Research (CIHR), and the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP).
