Meet Dr. Sze Bladder and pelvic floor conditions can affect nearly every part of a person’s life – from work and exercise to sleep, travel, and personal relationships. Many patients live with their symptoms for years because they feel embarrassed, believe the problem is a normal part of aging, or do not realize that effective treatments are available. Urologist Christina Sze, M.D., provides comprehensive care for urinary incontinence, pelvic organ prolapse, recurrent urinary tract infections, interstitial cystitis and bladder pain syndrome, voiding dysfunction, and other complex pelvic floor conditions. “These conditions can be physically and emotionally exhausting, but patients do not have to simply live with them,” Dr. Sze said. “My goal is to understand how the condition is affecting each patient and help them find a treatment that allows them to return to the activities that matter most.” A fellowship-trained specialist in female pelvic medicine and reconstructive surgery, Dr. Sze is a member of the Female Urology team in UT Southwestern Medical Center’s Department of Urology. She offers a broad range of treatments, including behavioral and medical therapies, office-based procedures, and vaginal, abdominal, robotic, and minimally invasive surgery. Dr. Sze also cares for patients with complex or persistent conditions, including recurrent symptoms and previous treatments that have not provided adequate relief. She has a particular clinical and research interest in interstitial cystitis, chronic bladder pain, and recurrent urinary tract infections. “Pelvic floor and bladder disorders are deeply personal, and every patient experiences them differently,” Dr. Sze said. “I want my patients to feel heard, understand their diagnosis, and know that we will work together to find the right path forward.” Because each patient’s symptoms, anatomy, lifestyle, and treatment priorities are unique, Dr. Sze emphasizes shared decision-making. She takes time to explain the benefits, potential risks, recovery expectations, and likely durability of each option, so patients can make informed choices about their care. Dr. Sze also recognizes that treatment costs can create a significant burden for patients and their families. When comparing options, she considers not only the immediate expense but also long-term affordability, including the possible need for ongoing medications, maintenance treatments, repeat procedures, and time away from work. “An effective treatment must also be realistic and sustainable for the patient,” Dr. Sze said. “I want patients to understand both the short- and long-term implications of their options, so we can choose a plan that fits their health needs, lifestyle, and financial circumstances.” In summing up her approach, Dr. Sze said, “There is rarely a single treatment that is right for everyone. I personalize care around each patient’s goals and preferences. At the end of the day, I want patients to feel confident in their treatment plan and hopeful about improving their quality of life.” Education Fellowship UT Southwestern Medical Center 2024, Urology Medical Education Drexel University College of Medicine (2018) Residency Cornell University Medical College (2024), Urology Research Interest Chronic bladder conditions Interstitial cystitis Pelvic floor disorders Personalized approaches to bladder care Recurrent urinary tract infections Professional Associations/Affiliations American Medical Association American Urological Association (AUA) Society of Urodynamics, Female Pelvic Medicine & Urogenital Reconstruction South Central Section of AUA Texas Medical Association
