  • Biography

Jonathan D. Mosley, M.D., Ph.D., is a clinically trained physician scientist and associate professor in the Department of Internal Medicine at UT Southwestern Medical Center. He has a Master’s in Science in Chronic Disease Epidemiology from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health and completed an M.D./Ph.D. program at Case Western Reserve University, where his thesis work focused on molecular and mouse models of mammary gland tumorigenesis.

Dr. Mosley completed a residency in Internal Medicine at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. His clinical focus is on the diagnosis and treatment of resistant hypertension.

Dr. Mosley’s research focus is on the translation of complex genetics to clinical medicine with the goal of improving health care delivery, reducing unnecessary health care utilization and improving risk stratification. In particular, he focuses on developing, evaluating and implementing polygenic methods to guide clinical decision-making, to inform clinical risk prediction and to delineate the etiological relationships between diverse human diseases and putative biomarkers. Much of this work leverages large clinical and epidemiological data resources including electronic health records (EHR)-linked to DNA biobanks. One area of interest is how “benign” genetic variation in clinical biomarkers creates vulnerable populations that are predisposed to iatrogenic harms. Other areas of focus include metabolomics, proteomics prostate cancer, and cardiac disease.
