Sonal Bhatia, M.D.

Sonal Bhatia, M.D., FACNS, is an Associate Professor in the Department of Pediatrics at UT Southwestern Medical Center. She specializes in pediatric neurology.

Dr. Bhatia previously held academic faculty positions at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) Health, in Charleston, South Carolina, where she was Associate Program Director for Child Neurology Residency and Director of the Pediatric Epilepsy Monitoring Unit.

She joined the faculty of UT Southwestern in 2023. Her research focuses on pediatric epilepsy, neurophysiology, and disparities in healthcare. She has authored book chapters and numerous peer-reviewed articles, and she is an ad hoc reviewer for multiple journals. Dr. Bhatia has served as principal investigator and co-investigator on grants and clinical trials related to pediatric neurology and epilepsy.

Dr. Bhatia holds medical degrees from Topiwala National Medical College & Bai Yamunabai Laxman Nair Charitable Hospital and Lokmanya Tilak Municipal Medical College & General Hospital in Mumbai, India. 
She completed pediatric neurology residencies at both the State University of New York (SUNY) Downstate Medical Center and the Medical University of South Carolina. Dr. Bhatia gained advanced training through an epilepsy fellowship at the Medical University of South Carolina.

She is an active member of major professional societies, including the American Epilepsy Society, the Child Neurology Society, and the American Clinical Neurophysiology Society. Dr. Bhatia was awarded a fellowship from the American Clinical Neurophysiology Society and a fellowship from the American Epilepsy Society. She was also selected for the Clinical Trialist Training Program from MUSC Health.

Dr. Bhatia regularly delivers lectures nationally and internationally and is engaged in community outreach, including advocacy and volunteer electroencephalogram (EEG) interpretation.
