  • Biography

Dr. Muhammad Rizwan is a tenure-track Assistant Professor in the Department of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center (UTSW), with a secondary appointment in the Department of Ophthalmology. He earned his Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering from the National University of Singapore in 2017, followed by postdoctoral training at the University of Waterloo (2017–2019) with Dr. Evelyn Yim and the University of Toronto (2019–2021) with Dr. Molly Shoichet. His research group focuses on designing hydrogel-based biomaterials for tissue engineering and regenerative medicine, aiming to harness the tunable properties of hydrogels to regulate cell behavior, create engineered matrices for 3D cell culture, and enable precise cell and drug delivery for in-situ regeneration. Dr. Rizwan has received the Singapore International Graduate Award for his doctoral research, the University of Toronto Research Excellence Award for postdoctoral work, and NIH funding for ongoing projects. He has published over 30 peer-reviewed articles in leading biomaterials and tissue engineering journals.
