  • Biography

    Oladipupo Olafiranye, M.D., is an Associate Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine at UT Southwestern Medical Center in the Division of Cardiology. He serves as the Chief Interventional Cardiologist and Director of the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory at the VA North Texas Healthcare System.

    Dr. Olafiranye earned his medical education at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) in Nigeria where he also completed internal medicine residency training. He received additional internal medicine training and a pathology fellowship at St. George’s General Hospital in the West Indies. He received advanced training through fellowships at State University of New York (SUNY) and at University of Pittsburg Medical Center (UPMC) Presbyterian Hospital in Brooklyn, where he received the Galal M. Ziady Memorial Award for outstanding achievement in the care of cardiac patients, followed by postdoctoral research training at the University of Pittsburg, where he also received a certificate in Healthcare Leadership & Business Fundamentals and earned a master's degree in clinical and translational research.

    Certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in cardiology and interventional cardiology, Dr. Olafiranye joined the UT Southwestern faculty in 2023. He was previously an Associate Professor with tenure at the University of Pittsburgh. The honor of being trusted to give health-related advice and the gratitude for helping someone through complex health situations motivates him each day as a physician.

    Dr. Olafiranye is an elected fellow of the Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions and American College of Cardiology. He is also a life member of Association of Black Cardiologists and a member of American Heart Association. He is a frequent reviewer for several medical journals and conferences.

    Dr. Olafiranye's research interests include preventive cardiology, interventional cardiology, acute coronary syndrome, acute kidney injury, ischemic pre-conditioning and health disparities. His investigations have been funded by the National Institute of Health and Clinical Science Research & Development. His findings have been published in several peer-reviewed research journals, review articles and book chapters.

    Dr. Olafiranye enjoys playing soccer and spending time with family and friends.
