  • Biography

    Dr. Bitar received her MD degree from Aleppo University, Syria and completed a residency in pathology at Icahn School of Medicine, Mount Sinai Medical Center, New York.  She obtained advanced fellowship training in Neuropathology (NY-Presbyterian Hospital, Columbia University Medical Center), Molecular Genetic Pathology (David Geffen School of Medicine, UCLA) and Pediatric Pathology (Children's Hospital Los Angeles). Dr. Bitar joined the department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in 2024 as Pediatric Pathologist and Neuropathologist and Director of Pediatric Neuropathology.

    Academic Focus:

    Dr. Bitar currently serves as a director of the pediatric neuropatholgy rotation of the neuropathology fellowship at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center and the director of an interactive microscopy course in brain autopsy at the United States and Canadian Academy of Pathology (USCAP) annual meetings 2025 and 2026. Prior to joining the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, Dr. Bitar served as assistant director of the Neuropathology fellowship program at Northwestern Feinberg School of Medicine.  She has numerous peer-reviewed publications, and she serves as a reviewer for multiple peer-reviewed medical journals. 

    Clinical Focus:

    Dr. Bitar is board certified in Anatomic pathology, Neuropathology and Pediatric pathology by the American board of pathology and her clinical practice includes pediatric pathology and molecular genetic pathology.
