Biography Dr. Bitar received her MD degree from Aleppo University, Syria and completed a combined residency in anatomic pathology and cytopathology at Icahn School of Medicine, Mount Sinai Medical Center, New York. She obtained advanced fellowship training in Neuropathology (NY-Presbyterian Hospital, Columbia University Medical Center), Molecular Genetic Pathology (David Geffen School of Medicine, UCLA) and Pediatric Pathology (Children's Hospital Los Angeles). Dr. Bitar joined the department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in 2024 as a Pediatric and Neuropathologist and Director of Pediatric Neuropathology. Academic Focus: Prior to joining the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, Dr. Bitar served as assistant director of the Neuropathology fellowship program at Northwestern Feinberg School of Medicine where she oversaw Neuropathology training for medical students, residents, and fellows. Dr. Bitar also serves as a director of the brain autopsy educational course at the United States and Canadian Academy of Pathology (USCAP). Dr. Bitar’s research interests include brain tumors, pediatric solid tumors, and the Neuropathology of COVID-19. She has numerous peer-reviewed publications, and she serves as a reviewer for multiple peer-reviewed medical journals. Clinical Focus: Dr. Bitar is Board certified by the American Board of Pathology in Anatomic Pathology and Neuropathology. Her clinical practice includes pediatric surgical pathology, pediatric postmortem examination and neuropathology.
