Biography

Amit Goyal, M.D., is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine at UT Southwestern Medical Center and a member of its Division of Cardiology. Dr. Goyal is also part of the VA North Texas Healthcare System.

Dr. Goyal holds a bachelor's degree in neuroscience from the University of California, Davis, and a master's degree in clinical research from the University of California, San Diego, where he also earned his medical degree. He completed internal medicine residency training at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland, and received additional training in general cardiology, and interventional and structural cardiology at Cleaveland Clinic in Ohio.

Board Certified in cardiovascular disease and internal medicine, Dr. Goyal joined the faculty of UT Southwestern in 2023.

In 2019, Dr. Goyal co-founded CardioNerds, an online educational platform established to democratize cardiovascular education. The platform was intended to create and disseminate education; to foster wellness and humanism in the practice of cardiovascular medicine; to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion; to provide mentorship and sponsorship; and to invigorate a love of cardiovascular science. CardioNerds birthed multiple initiatives including the Clinical Trials Network – a fellow-based network aiming to pair equitable trial recruitment with trainee development, CardioNerds Academy – an online school to advance digital medical education, the Healy Honor Roll – a multi-institutional collaboration with 50 cardiovascular fellowship programs for online education, the Medical Journalism Program – a trainee-led journalism source to report on the latest advances in cardiovascular medicine., the CardioNerds Scholarship – a program to support proposals that synergize with its mission by providing funding, mentorship, and sponsorship, the Narratives in Cardiology Series – a grant-funded program to promote diversity and inclusion in cardiovascular medicine, in collaboration with the Pennsylvania ACC Chapter and the ACC Fellows-in-Training Section, and the Cardiology Twitter Journal Clubs (#CardsJC), including in collaboration with HFSA and ASPC.
