Biography

Salman Allana, M.D., is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine at UT Southwestern Medical Center. He specializes in interventional cardiology, especially coronary chronic total occlusions and complex and high-risk coronary interventions.

Dr. Allana earned his medical degree at Aga Khan University in Pakistan. He completed a residency in internal medicine, a fellowship in cardiovascular disease, and a fellowship in interventional cardiology at the University of Wisconsin Hospitals and Clinics in Madison. He also gained advanced training through a fellowship in complex and high-risk coronary intervention (CTO/CHIP) at the Minneapolis Heart Institute.

Certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in internal medicine, cardiovascular disease, and interventional cardiology, he joined the UT Southwestern faculty in 2023. He serves as Director of UT Southwestern’s Complex Coronary Artery Disease and Chronic Total Occlusion Program.

Dr. Allana is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology and the Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions, where he served on the Structural Heart Disease Council. He is also a member of the American College of Physicians and the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council.

His clinical and research areas of interest include coronary chronic total occlusions, complex and high risk percutaneous coronary interventions, cardiogenic shock, percutaneous mechanical circulatory support, and coronary physiology and imaging. He has delivered multiple presentations at national and international levels; contributed to several books, including Manual of Chronic Total Occlusions, Chronic Total Occlusions: A Guide to Recanalization, and Topol's Textbook of Interventional Cardiology; and published numerous academic peer-reviewed articles related to his areas of expertise.

When he’s not at work, Dr. Allana enjoys playing cricket and squash, reading, running, watching movies, and spending time with his family, especially his young son.
