Biography
Vivian Irizarry Gatell, M.D., is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine at UT Southwestern Medical Center and a member of its Division of Hematology and Oncology. She specializes in acute leukemia; bone marrow transplantation and cellular immunotherapies; adolescent and young adult oncology; and survivorship.
Dr. Irizarry Gatell holds a bachelor's degree in biology from Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska, where she graduated summa cum laude. She earned her medical degree at the Loyola University Chicago Stritch School of Medicine and completed internal medicine residency training at Loyola University Medical Center, where she served as Chief Resident. She gained advanced training through a fellowship in hematology and oncology at the University of Florida in Gainesville, and a fellowship in blood and marrow transplant and cellular therapies at the H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center and Research Institute in Tampa, Florida.
Certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in internal medicine and hematology, Dr. Irizarry Gatell joined the UT Southwestern faculty in 2023.
Dr. Irizarry Gatell’s research interests include survivorship outcomes of patients with leukemia and those who have undergone bone marrow transplantation and other cellular therapies.
Personal Note
When she’s not at work, Dr. Irizarry Gatell enjoys baking, cycling, dancing, traveling, and going to museums.
