  • Biography

    Shanshan Tang, Ph.D., is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Radiation Oncology at UT Southwestern Medical Center and faculty in the Department’s Division of Medical Physics & Engineering. Dr. Tang earned her bachelor’s degree in biomedical engineering from Xi’an Jiaotong University in China and followed with the completion of her Ph.D. in biophysics at the same university. Dr. Tang began her career at UT Southwestern as an Instructor in the Department of Radiation Oncology prior to completing her medical physics radiation oncology residency training within the same Department. 

    Dr. Tang brings a strong background in medical imaging and clinical outcomes research. Her Ph.D. and postdoctoral research focused on ultrasound imaging and dosimetry, including the development of ultrasound microvessel imaging and radiation-induced acoustics for imaging and dosimetry applications. More recently at UT Southwestern, her research has expanded to predictive modeling of recurrence-free survival following radiation therapy and the development and clinical implementation of CBCT-guided direct-to-unit adaptive radiotherapy for breast cancer.

    Dr. Tang has authored and co-authored several publications in radiation oncology, medical physics, and biomedical imaging. Her work has addressed artificial intelligence-enabled and MR-guided radiotherapy, radiomics-based outcome prediction, brachytherapy treatment quality, and radiation treatment optimization. In addition, she has contributed to numerous studies involving ultrasound, photoacoustic imaging, elastography, and quantitative imaging technologies for disease assessment and clinical decision-making.
