Michael Mitakidis, M.D.

Michael Mitakidis, M.D., is an Instructor in the Department of Internal Medicine at UT Southwestern Medical Center, and a member of the Division of Cardiology. He focuses on managing clinical research involving cardiovascular disease and metabolism, as well as developing Cardiology's core lab and biorepository.

Originally from South Africa, Dr. Mitakidis received his medical degree from The School of Medicine at the University of Pretoria. He then completed graduate and post-graduate studies in primary emergency care, tropical medicine, aerospace medicine, family medicine, and healthcare management.

Prior to joining the UT Southwestern faculty in 2022, Dr. Mitakidis served as Medical Director for International SOS and Deputy Director of Hospital Services for Singapore's Ministry of Health. He also served as Science and Medicine Advisor for the American Heart Association in Dallas, and Director of Clinical Education and Development for Christus Health.

Dr. Mitakidis is a member of the American Heart Association, Society for Clinical Trials, Society of Clinical Research Associates, and the American Society for Clinical Laboratory Science.

Personal Note

Outside of medicine, Dr. Mitakidis enjoys spending time with family and friends, as well as cooking, art, and table tennis.
