He serves as Co-Leader of the Advanced Practice Provider Professional Skills Development Program at the Harold C. Simmons Comprehensive Cancer Center.

Originally from Tennessee, Dr. Taasan holds a bachelor's degree in interdisciplinary biomedical sciences from the University of Florida, which he earned summa cum laude. He received his medical degree from the University of Florida College of Medicine and completed internal medicine residency training at Duke University Medical Center. He then gained advanced training through a hematology and oncology fellowship at UT Southwestern, where he served as Chief Fellow.

Certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine, Dr. Taasan joined the UT Southwestern faculty in 2025.

Dr. Taasan's research interests center on medical education in hematology and oncology, quality improvement in inpatient malignant hematology care, and clinically oriented outcomes research. His work has focused on developing and evaluating innovative educational interventions for residents, fellows and advanced practice providers, including national survey studies, video-based curricula and a multicenter randomized trial assessing podcast-based learning within fellowship training programs. He has also led quality improvement initiatives aimed at optimizing chemotherapy delivery workflows to reduce treatment delays and hospital length of stay. Complementing this education-focused work, his peer-reviewed scholarship has included investigations into biomarker utilization and health care resource use, disparities in cardiovascular outcomes, viral pathogenesis and clinical outcomes in solid and hematologic malignancies, reflecting a broader interest in applying rigorous clinical research methods to improve care delivery and trainee education across disciplines.

He is a member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology, the American Society of Hematology, the Gold Humanism Honor Society, and the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society.

In 2024, Dr. Taasan received the Outstanding Achievement in Patient Care Award from the UT Southwestern Hematology and Oncology Fellowship Program.
