Carter, M.D., is a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine at UT Southwestern Medical Center and a member of its Division of Cardiology. His clinical interests include social determinants of health, racial disparities in cardiovascular disease, inherited cholesterol disorders, and hypertensive heart disease. Originally from Baltimore, Dr. Carter holds a bachelor's degree in psychology, with a minor in chemistry, from Wake Forest University in Winston Salem, North Carolina. He earned his medical degree at the University of North Carolina School of Medicine and completed internal medicine residency training at the University of Chicago Medical Center. He received advanced training in cardiovascular disease through a fellowship at UT Southwestern. Certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in cardiovascular disease and internal medicine, the National Board of Echocardiography, and the Certification Board of Nuclear Cardiology, Dr. Carter joined the UT Southwestern faculty in 2024. Dr. Carter's research interests include familial hypercholesterolemia, social determinants of health, and racial disparities in cardiovascular disease. His findings have been published in peer-reviewed journals and he has delivered presentations at scientific conferences. Dr. Carter is an active in several professional societies, including the American College of Cardiology, the American Society for Preventive Cardiology, the American Heart Association, and the White Coats Black Doctors Foundation, which he co-founded in 2015 and serves as an advisory board member. In 2023, Dr. Carter was awarded the American Heart Association’s Second Century Clinical Research Education grant. Dr. Carter enjoys spending his free time with friends and family, roller skating, serving on the medical team at this church, or watching a Baltimore Ravens game.
