Jiaen Liu, Ph.D. Titles and Appointments Assistant Professor Endowed Title TI Scholar in Advanced Imaging Technologies School Medical School Department Advanced Imaging Research Center | Radiology Graduate Programs Biomedical Engineering Biography I am the director of the BioMedical Imaging Research Lab (BiMIR) affiliated with the Advanced Imaging Research Center (AIRC) at UTSW. Our research is focused on novel advanced magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) development and applications in neurological disorders and neurodegeneration. Our topics cover in vivo imaging of brain iron, myelin, glymphatic function, cerebrovascular function and hemodynamics. These have led to fruitful applications in diseases including multiple sclerosis, Alzheimer's disease, traumatic brain injury, schizophrenia, etc. Email: jiaen.liu at utsouthwestern.edu Education Undergraduate Tsinghua University (2005), Environmental Engineering Graduate School Tsinghua University (2007), Instrument Sci & Tech Graduate School Uni of Minnesota-Twin Cities (2015), Biomedical Engineering Research Interest Clinical applications of advanced neuro MRI High spatiotemporal resolution functional MRI Novel MRI contrast for imaging tissue properties and physiology Quantitative high-resolution MRI for in vivo histology Publications Featured Publications Non-invasive MRI measurements of age-dependent in vivo human glymphatic exchange using magnetization transfer spin labeling.
