  • Biography

    Raksha Jain, M.D., M.S.C.I., is a Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine at UT Southwestern Medical Center and a member of its Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine. A Dedman Family Scholar in Clinical Care, she also serves as Medical Director of the Adult Cystic Fibrosis Program.

    Originally from Dallas, Dr. Jain holds a bachelor's degree in molecular biology from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge, Massachusetts. She received her medical degree from the University of Texas Houston Health Science Center and completed internal medicine residency training at UT Southwestern Medical Center, where she served as Chief Resident. She then obtained advanced training through a fellowship in pulmonary and critical care at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, where she also earned a master's degree in clinical investigation.

    Certified in pulmonology, critical care medicine, and internal medicine, by the American Board of Internal Medicine, Dr. Jain joined the UT Southwestern faculty in 2010. 

    Dr. Jain's research interests include new treatments for cystic fibrosis and gender disparities in airway diseases. She oversees multicenter clinical trials related to cystic fibrosis and conducts her own clinical and molecular scientific research. She has earned awards from the National Institutes of Health, Children’s Medical Center of Dallas, and the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation for her work on hormonal influences of lung disease in cystic fibrosis.

    At UT Southwestern, Dr. Jain is a member of various committees, including the Ambulatory Clinic Medical Directors Committee, the Department of Medicine Clinical Trials Working Group, and the Aston Clinical Research Operations Working Group. She is also the Chair of the Department of Medicine Clinical Scholars Incentive Plan Committee. 

    Dr. Jain is active in several professional societies, including the American Thoracic Society, the American College of Chest Physicians, the Texas Medical Association, the Dallas County Medical Society, the Society of Women's Health Research, the American Medical Association, the Southern Society for Clinical Investigation, and the European Cystic Fibrosis Society.

    Outside of UT Southwestern, Dr. Jain is the Chair of the Sexual Health, Reproduction, and Gender Researching Working Group through the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation Therapeutics Development Network.
