Karabi Nandy, Ph.D. Associate Professor School School of Public Health Department Public Health | Psychiatry Biography Download Curriculum Vitae Dr. Nandy is an Associate Professor in the Peter O’Donnell School of Public Health, with a joint appointment at the Center for Depression Research in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center. Prior to joining UTSW in 2020, Dr. Nandy served as a faculty at the University of North Texas Health Science Center (2016-2020), University of California Los Angeles (2007-2016) and University of Illinois at Chicago (2004-2007). With training in Statistics, her research expertise and scientific contributions lie at the interface of interdisciplinary and translational research, developed through years of cross-discipline collaborations in public health, nursing, psychiatry, and medicine. These collaborations encompass research in areas as diverse as community-based participatory research to intervention studies in public health to clinical studies in medicine. As the lead statistician on many projects, her roles include planning the study design, sampling, and sample size decisions, execution of randomization schemes, providing guidance through data collection and management processes, and leading data analyses and dissemination processes. She has served as a co-investigator and center PI on a multitude of funded grants from various sources such as the National Institute of Health (NIH), the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF), Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), and other agencies which have resulted in many published peer-reviewed manuscripts. She also serves as a reviewer for several peer-reviewed journals and grant mechanisms. She has taught extensively over an entire spectrum of degree programs, from undergraduate to doctoral, in schools of public health, nursing and medicine. Courses include regression methods, biostatistics consulting, survey sampling, survey research and questionnaire design, research designs, and multivariate statistics. She has given numerous workshops in applied statistics geared towards helping researchers in nursing tackle various statistical issues involved in grant-writing. Many of her students have gone on to become successful professionals. Overall, Dr. Nandy has a longstanding demonstrated record of accomplished and productive research and publications in areas that are both statistical and health science focused. She is also a passionate teacher in the classroom, instilling knowledge in her students and sparking in them a love for research.
