Biography
Dr. Rajal Shah is the professor of pathology, senior pathologist and director of Genitourinary selective pathology fellowship at UT Southwestern Medical Center. He holds Dr. Charles T. Ashworth professorship in pathology. Dr. Shah received his undergraduate medical degree at Gujarat University, Gujarat, India. He completed his pathology residency at The St. John Hospital and Medical Center, Detroit, MI, and subspecialty training in Genitourinary pathology at the University of Michigan. Dr. Shah served as the faculty at the departments of pathology and urology at the University of Michigan, where he reached the rank of associate professor and was the Director of the Genitourinary pathology clinical service, fellowship program, and tissue core of the specialized program or research excellence (SPORE) in prostate cancer. Dr. Shah also has extensive experience in the industry (Inform Diagnostics), where he served as the vice president and medical director of Urologic pathology.
Dr. Shah is an active member of several professional organizations and currently serves as the President-Elect of the Genitourinary Pathology Society (GUPS). Dr. Shah's clinical expertise and research focus include urologic cancers, specifically prostate cancer. He has made several seminal scientific contributions to the field and is a sought-out speaker at national and international meetings on urologic pathology. He has authored more than 156 peer-reviewed journal publications, two books (entitled “Interpretation of prostate needle biopsies: An illustrated guide”), numerous book chapters and was among a group of scientists awarded the inaugural "Team Science Award" from the American Association of Cancer Research for the discovery of recurrent gene fusions in prostate cancer. He also serves on several editorial boards, including Human Pathology and Path Presenter.
