Biography Eleanor Lederer, M.D., is a Professor of Internal Medicine at UT Southwestern Medical Center, and a member of its Division of Nephrology. She specializes in chronic kidney disease complications, kidney stones, and kidney transplants. Dr. Lederer holds a bachelor’s degree in biology from Rice University in Houston. She earned her medical degree at Baylor College of Medicine, where she also completed her residency in internal medicine and fellowship in nephrology. She served as Chief Medical Resident at the Ben Taub General Hospital, co-director of the kidney transplant program and the Medical Director of the Pancreas Transplant Program at the Methodist Hospital. She joined the faculty at the University of Louisville in 1991, where she developed an independent research program in the study of phosphate transport in the proximal tubule. She served as Division Chief of Nephrology and Hypertension, Interim Associate Dean of Research for the University of Louisville School of Medicine, and Interim Chair of Medicine. She was a Merit Review-funded investigator at the affiliated Robley Rex VA Medical Center where she also served as Interim Chief of Medical Services and Associate Chief of Staff. She joined the UT Southwestern faculty in 2020. Dr. Lederer is the John S. Fordtran Endowed Professor in Calcium Research at UTSW’s Charles and Jane Pak Center for Mineral Metabolism. In addition, she serves as the Assistant Chief of Medical Services for Research and Co-Director of the Network of Dedicated Enrollment Sites (NODES) program at the affiliated VA North Texas Health Sciences Center. Dr. Lederer is currently funded through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs to study the regulation of parathyroid hormone, phosphate, and calcium in chronic kidney disease. She has published a number of peer-reviewed articles and has authored or coauthored chapters in numerous books, including Essentials of Chronic Kidney Disease and Principles of Geriatric Medicine and Gerontology. She is an active member of several professional organizations, including the Renal Physicians Association, the American College of Physicians, the International Society of Nephrology, the American Association for the Advancement of Science, and the American Society of Nephrology, which she served as a member of the on the Executive Committee of the Training Program Directors, the Publications Committee, and ultimately, as president. Among many other honors, in 2020 Dr. Lederer received the Excellence in Patient Care Award from the National Kidney Foundation of Kentucky, and in 2022, she was selected to deliver the Jack W. Coburn, M.D., Endowed Lecturship.
