Dai H. Chung, M.D., is a Professor in the Department of Surgery at UT Southwestern Medical Center. He specializes in pediatric surgery.

Dr. Chung earned his medical degree at the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston, Texas, where he also completed an internship and a residency in surgery. He received advanced training through a fellowship in pediatric surgery at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center/University of Cincinnati College of Medicine, as well as through research fellowships with the National Institutes of Health at Shriners Burns Hospital and the University of Texas Medical Branch.

Certified by the American Board of Surgery in pediatric surgery, he joined the UT Southwestern faculty in 2018.

Dr. Chung is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and the American Academy of Pediatrics, Section of Surgery. He currently serves as President of the Society of University Surgeons Foundation and Director of the American Board of Surgery. He is Chairman of the American Board of Surgery’s Maintenance of Certification Examination Committee and is on the editorial board of several publications, including JAMA Surgery, Children, and Cancer Research Frontiers. In addition, he is a member of the Association of American Medical Colleges, the Pediatric Trauma Society, and the Society of Clinical Surgery, among many other organizations.

Dr. Chung has published more than 130 academic articles and contributed to dozens of books. He is also a sought-after speaker and has delivered scores of presentations around the world.

In 2017, he earned the Society of University Surgeons Travel Award to travel to the Surgical Research Society of South Africa.
