Biography Arzu Canan, M.D., is an Assistant Professor of Radiology at UT Southwestern Medical Center, and is interim Division Chief of its Cardiothoracic Imaging Division. Originally from Turkey, Dr. Canan received her medical degree from Ondokuz Mayis University Medical School in Samsun, graduating with honors. She then received radiology residency training at Abant Izzet Baysal University Hospital in Bolu. Dr. Canan entered into clinical practice at Antalya Ataturk State Hospital in Antalya before coming to the U.S. to pursue research in breast imaging at the University of Kentucky in Lexington, and in cardiothoracic imaging at UT Southwestern. Prior to joining the faculty in 2021, Dr. Canan received advanced training through fellowship programs in cardiothoracic imaging and cardiac imaging at UT Southwestern. Dr. Canan’s research interests include cardiac computed tomography evaluation of coronary artery disease and structural heart disease as well as magnetic resonance imaging of non-ischemic cardiomyopathies. Dr. Canan’s research investigations and clinical activities have led her to publish her findings in more than 35 peer-reviewed articles. She has also authored or co-authored eight book chapters. Additionally, Dr. Canan serves as a reviewer for several specialty publications, including the Journal of Cardiac Computed Tomography, American Journal of Radiology, Journal of Radiology Case Reports, BMJ Case Reports, and World Journal for Pediatric and Congenital Heart Surgery. She also currently serves on the Editorial Board of Journal of Cardiac Computed Tomography and Frontiers in Radiology. Dr. Canan is an active member of several professional organizations, including the Society of Cardiac Computed Tomography for which she serves on the Fellow and Resident Leaders (FiRST) of SCCT committee, American Roentgen Ray Society, Radiological Society of North America, Society of Thoracic Radiology, North American Society of Cardiac Imaging, and the American College of Radiology.
