  • Biography

    Amin Amin, M.D., is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine at UT Southwestern Medical Center and a member of its Division of Digestive and Liver Diseases. He specializes in general gastroenterology, general hepatology and obesity medicine with a focus on metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD).

    Dr. Amin earned his medical degree with honors from the University of Leicester School of Medicine in England. He completed postdoctoral training in metabolic science and clinical residency training at University Hospitals Birmingham in England. He received advanced training in immune-metabolism and adipocyte biology at the University of California San Francisco, before joining UT Southwestern's Physician Scientist Training Program (PSTP). He received internal medicine residency training and fellowship training in gastroenterology and hepatology at UT Southwestern, with an additional focus on obesity medicine. 

    Certified by the Royal College of Surgeons of England and the American Board of Internal Medicine in gastroenterology and obesity medicine, Dr. Amin joined the UT Southwestern faculty in 2024. He brings a wealth of experience spanning scientific, medical, and surgical disciplines from both sides of the Atlantic.

    Dr. Amin stands at the forefront of liver health research, contributing significantly to the understanding and treatment of metabolic liver diseases. His groundbreaking research focuses on improving liver transplant success by reducing excess fat in livers, making them less susceptible to ischemia. Utilizing his expertise in quantitative hepatic metabolism and a refined platform of rodent normothermic machine perfusion, he employs carbon-13 tracers to investigate metabolic aberrations in MASLD. His goal is to develop new treatments for this growing disease, offering hope to those suffering and those on the transplant waitlist.
