  • Biography

Aurelie Garant, M.D., is an Associate Professor of Radiation Oncology and Director of the Brachytherapy Program at UT Southwestern Medical Center. Certified by both the American Board of Radiology (ABR) and Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, Dr. Garant joined UT Southwestern in 2018.

Dr. Garant earned her medical degree from Université Laval in Canada and completed her radiation oncology residency training at McGill University Health Centre. She followed this with a fellowship in advanced radiation oncology at Mayo Clinic.

At UT Southwestern, Dr. Garant specializes in primary brachytherapy adaptive radiation for hybrid PET linac-based technologies, such as RefleXion, which she led an Investigational Device Exemption (IDE) trial for U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approval. Her research interests include 3D printed applications in radiation oncology, re-irradiation for recurrent pelvic malignancies, advanced prostate cancer, renal cell carcinoma, and organ preservation in rectal cancer. She actively conducts research on existing medical devices including the UroLift System and Ion robotic bronchoscopy surgical system, as well as novel brachytherapy applicators, which she has received funding for.

Dr. Garant has been the recipient of numerous awards including a National Institutes of Health (NIH) Kidney Cancer SPORE Career Enhancement Program Award, the Association of Residents in Radiation Oncology (ARRO) Educator of the Year, and Texas Super Doctors, Rising Star Award. She has authored a chapter in Campbell-Walsh-Wein Urology and is on the editorial board for Frontiers in Oncology.
