Swati Lederer, M.D. Assistant Professor School Medical School Department Internal Medicine Biography Swati Lederer, M.D., is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine at UT Southwestern Medical Center, and a member of its Division of Nephrology. Dr. Lederer’s clinical interests include chronic end-stage kidney disease. Originally from Dover, N.J., Dr. Lederer holds a bachelor’s degree in biology and political science from the University of Michigan. She received her medical degree from Michigan State University, and completed internal medicine residency training at the University of Illinois in Chicago, where she also completed advanced training through a fellowship in nephrology. She also earned a master’s degree in clinical and translational science at the University of Illinois, School of Public Health, with an emphasis in qualitative research. She also completed a 2-year Advanced Research Fellowship through the Department of Veterans Affairs, with a focus on health literacy among patients. Certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in nephrology, she joined the UT Southwestern Faculty in 2017. Dr. Lederer’s research interests include patient-provider communication, health literacy, and self-care practices among patients with chronic and end-stage kidney disease. Her investigations have resulted in several publications in peer-reviewed journals. At UT Southwestern, Dr. Lederer serves as Associate Program Director of Clinical Competency for the Nephrology Fellowship Program. She has carried out several Quality Improvement Initiatives that streamline communication for transplants, reduce emergency room wait times, and ensure follow-up for “floating renal lab” results. Dr. Lederer is a member of the American Society of Nephrology. Her interests outside of medicine include spending time with her family, travelling, and cooking.
