  • Biography

    Bonnie Bermas, M.D., is a Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine at UT Southwestern Medical Center and a member of the Division of Rheumatic Diseases. She specializes in rheumatology disorders.

    Originally from New Rochelle, New York, Dr. Bermas holds a bachelor's degree in biochemical sciences from Princeton University in New Jersey. She earned her medical degree at Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York City. She completed a residency in internal medicine at New York-Presbyterian Columbia University Medical Center. She then completed advanced training through fellowships in rheumatology at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston and at the National Institutes of Health.

    Dr. Bermas is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in rheumatology. She joined the UT Southwestern faculty in 2017.

    Dr. Bermas is a member of the American College of Rheumatology.

    Dr. Bermas' research interests include pregnancy and rheumatic diseases, systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and antiphospholipid syndrome (APS), and rheumatic immune checkpoint inhibitor adverse events. She has delivered numerous international and national invited lectures, contributed to books such as Systemic Lupus Erythematosus, and published a number of academic articles.

    Outside of work, Dr. Bermas’ interests include her family, reading, cooking, and biking.
