Oganes Ashikyan, M.D., is an Assistant Professor of Radiology at UT Southwestern Medical Center and a member of its Musculoskeletal Radiology Division. He provides clinical imaging services at William P. Clements Jr. University Hospital, Zale Lipshy University Hospital, and Parkland Hospital.

Dr. Ashikyan earned his bachelor's degree in nursing at California State University in Northridge. He earned his medical degree at the University of California–Irvine, where he also completed his residency in radiology. He received advanced training through fellowship programs in musculoskeletal imaging from the University of California–Los Angeles and in neuroradiology from the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston.

Prior to joining the UT Southwestern faculty in 2017, Dr. Ashikyan was an Assistant Professor of Radiological Sciences at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center in Oklahoma City, for which he also became Chief of Musculoskeletal Imaging. He was also a Visiting Assistant Professor of Radiology at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, a Visiting Instructor of Radiology at the University of Missouri School of Medicine in Columbia, and an Assistant Professor of Radiologic Sciences at the University of South Alabama College of Medicine in Mobile, for which he became Medical Director of MRI safety. He also served as a radiologist for the Veterans Affairs Medical Center Long Beach and in private practice.

His research interests include MR imaging of inflammatory arthritis, for which he’s authored numerous original research articles as well as presented at multiple conferences. 

Dr. Ashikyan is an active member of national and international professional organizations including the European Society of Radiology, the Society of Skeletal Radiology, the American Society of Neuroradiology, the North American Spine Society, and the American Roentgen Ray Society.

He also serves as a reviewer for Skeletal Radiology and Radiology Case Reports.
