Monika Kumar, M.D. Associate Program Director, Hematology Oncology Fellowship Program Assistant Professor School Medical School Department Internal Medicine Biography Monika Kumar, M.D., is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine at UT Southwestern Medical Center and a member of the Division of Hematology and Oncology. Originally from Shreveport, Louisiana, Dr. Kumar holds a bachelor's degree in public health from Tulane University in New Orleans, where she graduated magna cum laude. She completed her medical degree at Louisiana State University School of Medicine in Shreveport. She then earned a master's degree in public health at the University of Texas Health Sciences Center School of Public Health in Dallas. She completed internal medicine residency training as a Global Health and Health Disparities Scholar at the Medical College of Virginia and Virginia Commonwealth University, followed by a fellowship in hematology and oncology at UT Southwestern Medical Center. During her fellowship, she was Chief Fellow. Certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in hematology and oncology, Dr. Kumar joined the UT Southwestern faculty in 2020. At UT Southwestern, Dr. Kumar is involved in several committees, including the Supporting Women Achieving Greatness (SWAG) Committee, the Fellowship Core Competency Committee, the Program Evaluation Committee, and the Hematology-Oncology Division Education Workgroup. Dr. Kumar is an active member of the Texas Society of Clinical Oncology, the American Society of Hematology, and the American Society of Clinical Oncology. She is also an Editor and Faculty Advisor for The Healing Arts, a UT Southwestern Internal Medicine Literary Journal. Dr. Kumar's research interests include cancer treatment, drug therapies, and other methods. She is currently the sub-investigator on several clinical trials. Her research has also resulted in publications in peer-reviewed journals, book chapters, and case reports.
