Biography

Belinda Vicioso, M.D., is a Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine at UT Southwestern Medical Center, and a member of its Division of Geriatric Medicine. She holds the Jose Garcia Professorship in Internal Medicine, and serves as Medical Director of Geriatrics at Parkland Health. She specializes in memory disorders. 

Originally from New York City, Dr. Vicioso earned her bachelor’s degree from the Colegio Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic. She received her medical degree with honors from Instituto Tecnologico de Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, and completed internal medicine residency training at Hahnemann University Hospital in Philadelphia and St. Francis Medical Center in Trenton, New Jersey. She received advanced training through a fellowship in geriatric medicine at the University of Pennsylvania Medical School. 

Certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in internal medicine and geriatric medicine, and certified as a nursing home medical director by the American Medical Directors Association, she joined the UT Southwestern faculty in 1995.

Prior to joining UT Southwestern, Dr. Vicioso served on the faculty at the University of Pennsylvania, the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, the University of Maryland, and Seton Hall University. 

Dr. Vicioso’s academic interests include healthcare policy, management of chronic diseases, and medication adherence. Her investigations have resulted in more than 20 publications in peer-reviewed journals. In 2003, she completed a Primary Health Care Policy Fellowship at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

At UT Southwestern, Dr. Vicioso serves on advisory committees for global health and minorities in the health professions, and mentors medical students in Sprague College. 

Dr. Vicioso has also served in regional and statewide leadership roles, including president of the Texas Geriatrics Society, chair of the Teacher’s Section of the American Geriatrics Society, and geriatrics curriculum representative for the National Scientific Program Committee of the American College of Physicians. 

Dr. Vicioso has been named as a Top Doctor by Castle Connolly since 2001, and by Texas Monthly since 2015. Texas Monthly also named her a Super Doctor in 2018.
